MATADOR
FERDINAND THE BULL
(1938)
Animation drawing of the Matador,
said to be modeled after Walt Disney himself from this classic
Academy Award-winning cartoon short. He is full figure, self-satisfied
as he walks away with a determined pose. Nicely done in black, blue
and green, his complicated sleeve area has been colored in colored
pencils to show the demarcations. On a full sheet of animation paper
10 x 12”, whose edge away from the character to the right had been
folded some 60 years ago or so, it is initialed by the artist. There
is a notation: SC 39B and was originally sold by Courvoisier galleries
in the late 1930s bearing their number 1322 and the Disney stamp
in the bottom left corner. The drawing itself is numbered 472. |
