THE NEW SPIRIT
(1942)
Original pastel storyboard of a Japanese warship
from the first animated film of World War Two. Starring Donald Duck,
the film was released within three months of America’s entry into
the war. Made for the Treasury Department, they had to approve the
storyboards before production began. To help These non-professionals
understand the storyboards, they were done in color and with more
detail than usual. The color pastel storyboards were done so well
that many were printed in a two-page color spread in LIFE magazine.
Like the others, this one was done on black paper in pastels, and
measures 8 l/4 x 3 ¾”. The black paper has the Disney five-hole
punch along the bottom. |
