SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS
(1937)
Early storyboard drawing
by legendary Al Hurter.
This storyboard was created for the sequence
known as “The Dwarfs’ Council” at the studio where they try to come
up with something they can do for Snow White. The answer, of course,
was a bed, and this and the actual bed-making sequence would not
be completed for the final film. This is typical of the concept
of the scene-Doc at a tree stump as leader and the other dwarfs
sitting on logs or giant toadstools. Here four dwarfs are pictured
that look like early versions of Doc, Grumpy, Sneezy and Bashful.
It is in red and black pencil, and has the words “YOU MEAN-?” written
in blue. It is on animation paper cut down to 7 1/8 x 7 1/8”. It
has multiple pin holes in the top corners as it was moved from board
to board during the making of animation’s most important film. Showing
the early dwarfs’ incarnations and by one of the strongest Disney
concept artists, here is a rare quality piece. |
