DISADA’S NEW DISNEY SHOW
THIS SUMMER IN FLORIDA!

2004 is the 100th anniversary of the first staged performance of James M. Barrie’s PETER PAN. Many versions have been produced in the last century, one of the most endearing being Walt Disney’s 1953 animated feature. From July 9 to August 28, 2004 the Venice Art Center, in Venice, Florida will host an exhibition on that film. All the exhibits are from the film’s original release in 1953 and include posters, books, records, publicity items, toys and much, much more.

Venice celebrates a summer festival each year, and pigs rule! Throughout the city pigs are seen in every artistic expression, and so Disada is doing a second smaller exhibition on Walt Disney’s 1933 Academy-Award winning cartoon short THE THREE LITTLE PIGS which includes original animation artwork, old books, and other items from the most famous cartoon short of all time. We’d like to tell you what is in showcase number four but The Big Bad Wolf at the bottom is huffing and puffing and all the exhibits are being blown around. What a mess!

The largest exhibition hall at the Venice Art Center is large enough to include a third exhibition from Disada titled How A Cartoon is Made, showing all the steps involved in producing a traditional 2D cartoon at the time PETER PAN was made. This part consists of original animation artwork depicting character design, backgrounds, animation, storyboards and other elements.

All these exhibitions were designed and curated by Nicholas Mahon, who designed last year’s exhibition on the five feature animated films of Ron Clements, then celebrating thirty years at Disney. The exhibits were housed in full sized sets based on the films, such as Ariel’s Grotto in THE LITTLE MERMAID and the marketplace in ALADDIN.
